What is a countertop takeoff?
A countertop takeoff is the measurement of every stone piece required for a job — runs, depths, islands, backsplash, and fixture breaks — converted into square footage, linear footage of finished edge, a slab nesting layout, and a priced quote. It is the bill of materials for fabrication, built from architectural or kitchen layout drawings rather than from field templates alone.
What a takeoff includes
Piece geometry (length × depth per run), cutouts (sinks, cooktops), finished-edge perimeter, backsplash as a separate line, and usually a nest that turns pieces into slab count.
Takeoff vs field template
A drawing takeoff prices and orders stone before the cabinets are set. A field template confirms final sizes after cabinets are installed. Shops that quote from drawings still template before cutting when the install allows it.
