AI software for countertop takeoffs from architectural PDFs

Yes. Countertop-specific tools that read plan PDFs include Counterly, 2cm.ai and SlabOS (whose plan takeoff is in beta), and Exayard is a multi-trade AI takeoff tool with a dedicated countertop page. General construction tools such as Togal and BuildVision AI read PDFs for other trades but do not list countertops, and TakeoffBOT is built for millwork. Every one of them produces a first draft that an estimator reviews before the bid.

Should you use a countertop-specific tool or a general takeoff tool?

A general takeoff tool measures areas and lines on any drawing, but it leaves countertop rules to you: splash height, overhangs, finished versus unfinished edges, cutouts, and which fixtures are furnished by others. Countertop-specific tools build those items into the takeoff and usually carry it through to slabs and a quote.

A general tool makes sense when one estimator bids several trades from the same plan set. A stone shop that bids only countertops will usually do less rework in a countertop-specific tool.

What should you compare when choosing an AI takeoff tool?

  • Inputs. Vector PDFs, scans, photos or CAD. Scanned sheets are harder for every tool.
  • Countertop items. Finished edge, backsplash, cutouts, seams and waterfalls as separate quantities, not only total area.
  • Repeated units. On multifamily sets, whether the tool groups unit types and their quantities.
  • Slabs. Whether it nests pieces on slabs or leaves slab count to a spreadsheet.
  • Output. A priced quote, a spreadsheet, or machine files for the saw.
  • Review. How easy it is for your estimator to find and correct what the AI got wrong.

Where are other tools the better choice?

  • SlabOS runs the whole shop, from estimating through nesting, inventory, scheduling and DXF to CNC; Counterly covers the bid only.
  • 2cm.ai captures seams and waterfalls in the takeoff and produces 3D renderings for the customer.
  • Exayard reads CAD files and covers more than 40 trades if you bid other scopes too.
  • Togal and BuildVision AI suit general contractors and trades other than countertops.
  • TakeoffBOT suits millwork shops that need casework quantities for Cabinet Vision or Microvellum.

Where does Counterly fit?

Counterly is countertop-only. It reads plan PDFs, scans and images, groups repeated multifamily unit types for review, estimates slab count, yield and waste, and prices the quote from your price list. The first pass comes back in minutes and your estimator reviews it before the bid. Counterly accepts vector PDFs, scanned PDFs, JPG and PNG drawings. Use clear, uncropped sheets with readable dimensions and labels. A separate unit matrix can be uploaded as a PDF.

It does not read DWG, DXF or Revit files, export machine files, schedule installs or replace field templating.

How do you test an AI takeoff tool on your own plans?

Run the same plan set you have already bid through each tool you are considering. Use the same scope, then compare missing or added pieces, square footage by type, edge and splash quantities, cutouts and the slab estimate against your own numbers. Record how long your estimator spends correcting each result. That correction time, not the processing time, decides which tool saves work.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI do a countertop takeoff from architectural PDFs?

Yes, as a first draft. Counterly, 2cm.ai and SlabOS (in beta) read plan PDFs for countertops, and Exayard has a countertop page in its multi-trade tool. An estimator still reviews and corrects the result before the bid.

Does Togal do countertop takeoffs?

Togal’s site lists trades such as drywall, flooring, framing, electrical and painting, and does not list countertops (checked October 26, 2026). It can measure areas on a PDF, but countertop items such as splash, edges and cutouts are left to you.

Which AI countertop takeoff tools include slab nesting?

Counterly estimates slab count, yield and waste, and SlabOS nests takeoff counters onto slabs alongside its other jobs. Exayard exports to Excel for slab yield calculations; the general tools do not address slabs.

Is AI countertop takeoff better than an outsourced takeoff service?

It is faster: minutes rather than one to three business days. A service supplies the estimator hours, though. With AI software, your own estimator reviews the result. See the comparison of Counterly and outsourced takeoff services.

Do AI takeoff tools replace the estimator?

No. Every tool in this comparison describes its output as a draft the estimator reviews, and none replaces field measurement or templating.
