Supported file formats

Counterly reads countertop drawings as PDF files, or as JPG and PNG images of the sheets. A unit matrix, when a job has one, is uploaded as a PDF. Counterly exports a cut sheet as a PDF, the takeoff as a spreadsheet in .xlsx or .csv, and a priced quote for the customer. It does not read DWG, DXF or Revit files, does not accept iPhone HEIC photos, and does not export DXF or other machine files.

What you can upload

PDF. The preferred input. Use the original PDF from the architect or general contractor when you have it. Several files can go into one job.
JPG and PNG. Images of the sheets, for when a PDF is not available. The image should be clear and uncropped, with readable dimensions and sheet labels.
Unit matrix, as PDF. An optional separate upload for the schedule of unit types and counts.

Which sheets to include

Include the enlarged kitchen and bath plans, the unit schedule, and any detail or elevation sheets that fix countertop depth, backsplash height or scope. Counterly reads quantities and scope from those sheets, so leaving them out leaves questions open. A single file can be up to 1 GB.

What you can export

Cut sheet, as PDF. Unit types and quantities, square footage, finished edge, the slab nest, and the open questions and assumptions behind the numbers.
Spreadsheet, as .xlsx or .csv. The takeoff as rows, for your own pricing workbook or records.
Customer quote. A priced quote to send to the customer, available as a PDF.

What is not supported

DWG, DXF and Revit files. Export the sheets to PDF first.
HEIC photos. An iPhone saves photos as HEIC by default. Share the photo as a JPG and upload that.
Word and Excel files as drawings. Save them as PDF.
DXF or machine-file export. Counterly produces quantities, a nest and a quote. It does not produce files for a saw, CNC or waterjet.

Does drawing quality matter?

Yes. A dimensioned architectural drawing with printed measurements reads best. A sheet with no printed dimensions, a cropped phone photo, or a low-resolution scan gives Counterly less to work from and gives the estimator more to check. The accuracy page separates results by the kind of drawing for this reason.

If your drawings are in a format not listed here, export them to PDF and upload that. If that does not work for your set, get in touch and say what you have.
